Lorton's History

 A fourth generation family-owned, Colorado-proud furniture store

In 1927, when Howard Lorton opened the doors to his furniture gallery on Speer Boulevard, the grand opening invitation read, "Here will be displayed the results of our thorough search of the markets both East and West for objects of interest for the home. Personal service is the foundation upon which we hope to build a long-lasting and happy relationship with our customers."

Howard's commitment to the most beautiful furniture, exquisite fabrics, luxurious finishes and the highest standards of customer service brought a new level of style and sophistication to the small city of Denver in the 1920s. The new business survived the Great Depression and flourished after the War. Howard never wavered from his original purposes and continued working until his death in 1961.

At that point his grandson, William Lorton Cook took over the family business. In order to showcase even more beautiful furniture, Bill moved Lorton's 5 blocks north to its current, much larger location at 12th and Broadway in 1982.

Bill's son, Will Cook, is now poised to be the fourth generation of the Lorton family to head the business. He brings a fresh vision to Howard Lorton Galleries, with an eye on the future of the furniture industry and the Rocky Mountain region. Our continued commitment to the highest standards of personal service, the highest quality furniture, and competitive prices remains the cornerstone of our business philosophy.

True to our foundation, we still search the world over for exquisite pieces that are carefully constructed to bring the most beautiful furniture to your home. We still offer the same personal attention and interior design excellence our founder made a commitment to so many years ago. With an 80 year commitment to the Golden Triangle neighborhood, the family is proud to be part of the exciting growth in this area, including the Denver Public Library, Denver Art Museum, new shops, restaurants and luxury lofts.
